Understanding Menopause : Causes, Symptoms and Effects

Menopause is a natural occurring phenomenon in a woman’s life that typically happens between the ages of 45 and 55. This process is completely natural and primarily occurs due to hormonal changes in the body. Women experience various changes in their bodies during this time, ranging from fatigue and anxiety to sudden mood swings. Additional symptoms such as vaginal dryness, hot flashes, backache, and irregular sleep may also be noticed. These symptoms can be influenced by lifestyle patterns and may vary based on individual circumstances. This period requires support and extensive care to prevent symptoms and avoid complications.

MENOPAUSE CAUSES –

Menopause is a biological condition that occurs in women, and the causes behind it can vary from individual to individual. These causes can be divided into two parts: early menopause causes and late menopause causes.

  • EARLY MENOPAUSE CAUSES :
Early menopause can be caused by various factors, such as genetics, poor lifestyle routines, unhealthy eating habits, and alcohol or smoking consumption. Early menopause is accompanied by various symptoms and can negatively impact the body in multiple ways. It can disrupt the hormonal balance by creating an imbalance in the functions of estrogen and progesterone, which can lead to acne, backaches, irregular menstruation and vaginal discharge.

  • LATE MENOPAUSE CAUSES :
Late menopause generally occurs when there is a significant delay in the onset of menopause in women. The primary cause behind this condition is abnormal hormonal functioning within the body. The imbalance between luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) creates complications such as painful periods, hot flushes, low libido, anxiety, stress, and many more. Poor lifestyle choices and environmental conditions also contribute to the development of this condition.

MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS

    1. Vaginal Complications :
Hormonal imbalances in the body can result in symptoms such as vaginal dryness, increased vaginal discharge, and the potential for bacterial infections within the vagina. These imbalances can cause vaginal itching, a foul smell, and overall poor vaginal health, potentially leading to serious complications.

    2. Irregular periods :
During menopause, the activity of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) can lead to irregular menstrual cycles and conditions such as oligomenorrhea and dysmenorrhea. Some women may experience body pain and an imbalance in cortisol hormone levels, resulting in increased stress and anxiety.

    3. Insomnia :
Insomnia refers to a condition characterized by poor sleep quality. The effects of inadequate sleep can hinder the normal functioning of daily tasks, ultimately impacting focus and concentration on work during menopause.

    4. Hot flushes :
Hot flushes or the sensation of excess heat in the body, can also be experienced by some women. These hot flushes are a result of hormonal imbalance in the body during menopause.

    5. Weight gain :
During the menopause period, some women experience sudden weight gain, which can be attributed to an increase in cortisol levels in their bodies. Also, a lack of physical activity during this time further contributes to the weight gain experienced by these women.

MENOPAUSE EFFECTS -

  • Physiological Effects :
The physiological effects of menopause in women include sudden weight gain, hormonal imbalances, low sex drive, menstrual issues, insomnia, osteoporosis, body pain, backache etc. These effects are the result of a combination of environmental factors, lifestyle choices, and hormonal abnormalities that occur during the menopausal period.

  • Psychological Effects :
The psychological effects of menopause includes Stress , Anxiety , Depression , lack of focus and concentration. These are mainly caused due to fluctuations in the hormones like cortisol , estrogen , progesterone. High level of cortisol cause stress in the body resulting in anxiety and stress while imbalance in estrogen and progesterone affects menstrual cycle which creates psychological stress in the most of the females.
